The Richer A Persian, The Finer His Rugs

Exploring language, pattern, colonialism, translation, colour and abstraction. This has been developed through interweaving Urdu, English, Persian and Arabic proverbs. Specifically exploring how the British empire invaded Pakistan and forbid people from speaking Persian and Arabic, which is how Urdu was introduced. Mixing all these languages give a sense of how interconnected the languages and cultures are. Weaving is used as a way to play around with how much an image can be abstracted and seen, compared to others that may not be as visible.
